7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
SCREAMS BEFORE SILENCE, AN IMPORTANT NEW DOCUMENTARY LED BY SHERYL SANDBERG
Saturday September 7, 2024 at 7:30 PM - In person at Scarsdale Synagogue

In the months after October 7, noted business executive and author Sheryl Sandberg traveled to Israel to chronicle the (mostly untold) story of the role of brutal sexual violence in the October 7 attack by Hamas terrorists. Her completed work - a 56 minute documentary - represents a profoundly important feminist-centered and Zionist-centered response to the attacks. The film is freely available on YouTube (be in touch with Rabbi Brown for the link if you are interested), but we are screening it communally out of the belief that watching it together will give us the opportunity to support one another in the difficult act of witnessing stories about impossible-to-imagine violence.

Coffee and light snacks will be available throughout.
A clergy-moderated discussion will follow the screening of the film, and we will conclude with Havdalah.

PLEASE NOTE: Screams Before Silence contains accounts of sexual violence against women. Some of the film's material may trigger a strong emotional response in viewers. We are showing it because we believe these stories need to be told and have been overlooked or dismissed by vast segments of the world population. We encourage you to take care of your mental and emotional health. You are welcome to exit the room at any time. And in addition to our clergy: a licensed mental health clinician will be with us to support attendees if needed. High school students should only attend if accompanied by a trusted adult. Please be in touch with Rabbi Brown or Cantor Becker if you have any questions.

Sorry, Registration has ended.
