ABOUT CANTOR CHANIN BECKER

Cantor Chanin Becker grew up in Elkins Park, PA and learned to love Jewish music at Congregation Rodeph Shalom where she was "discovered" by her 4th grade Hebrew School teacher. Later she served as a songleader and music teacher in the congregation.
She graduated from Princeton University in 1993 with a degree in English Literature and Drama. From there, she went on to receive a Masters in Sacred Music and Ordination as a Cantor from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1998. During her studies she served as Student Cantor at Temple Emanuel in Baltimore, Maryland and as Cantorial Intern at Congregation Rodeph Shalom in New York City.
From 1998 until 2005 she served as the Cantor of Temple Isaiah in Lafayette, California and was the Vice President of the Northern California Board of Cantors from 1999-2001. She joined Scarsdale Synagogue in 2005. Since then, she has worked closely with our professional staff team and lay leaders to create opportunities for individuals of all ages to draw close to our community through worship, learning, music, ritual and sometimes simply by spending relaxed time together.
Cantor Becker is married to Joshua Rosen, a teacher at Springhurst Elementary School in Dobbs Ferry. They have 2 children, Aaron and Jordan.
