GRADES 4-6

Students in Grades 4, 5, and 6 meet twice a week:

Sundays from 9 - 11 a.m. (Jewish Studies) and Wednesdays from 4 - 6 p.m. (Tefillah and Hebrew).

At the start of our Sunday Religious School day, the whole school gathers for Kehillah! (Community!) where we share stories from our week, sing welcoming songs, and explore Mussar (Jewish Values for Everyday Living) in a child-friendly setting. Each month highlights a new middah (Jewish value) such as Friendship, Courage, and Kindness.

On Wednesdays, our students engage in Hebrew decoding and work through a self-paced Hebrew reading program called PHD (Phonic Hebrew Decoding). During Tefillah (communal worship) our students unpack and uncover meanings of our prayers through creative play, art, journal writing, and small group discussions in addition to working their way through the Matbei'ah Tefilliah (Structure of the service).

Each Grade enjoys its unique curricular focus and builds from one year to the next. Grade 4 explores the Jewish Life Cycle from birth and baby naming to death and Jewish mourning rituals. Grade 5 journeys through Bamidbar (the Wilderness) with the ancient Israelites and provides a framework for our students to see and understand their own journeys as they are growing up and maturing. Grade 6 spends the year unpacking and delving into a famous Midrashic teaching: "Every person has three names: The name their parents gave them; the name given to them by others; and the name they earn for themselves." Our "6th Grade Sages" end the year in a more introspective and self-reflective place, ready to enter the B'nai Mitzvah years.
