Letter from the St. Augustine Jail: The Little-Known Legacy of 17 Reform Jewish Civil Rights Heroes
Saturday January 10th, 7:30 PM
Join Rabbi Brown in the home of a Scarsdale Synagogue congregant for dessert, discussion and study, and Havdalah. Host's name and address will be shared with registered attendees several days before the event.
In June 1964, 17 young Reform Jewish leaders responded to a personal call from Dr. King and traveled to St. Augustine, Florida to witness the segregation and race-fueled violence there. They were subsequently jailed, and penned a famous letter that might serve as a blueprint for our own justice work today. As we prepare to mark Dr. King’s birthday, join Rabbi Brown to learn more about this unique moment in Jewish and Civil Rights history.
