Sharing Shabbat is back for the third year in a row at Scarsdale Synagogue for 5777
The last sharing shabbat of 5777 will be potluck at the synagogue!
After more than two years of helping to facilitate temple members sharing Shabbat meals in the home of other temple members, we enjoyed a communal experience in March that was enjoyed by all! We will be doing it again and sharing a communal meal together in our shared home: right here at 2 Ogden Road. Rabbi Brown and Cantor Becker will lead us in blessings and songs.
In observance of our community's dietary policy, our meal that evening will be a fish/dairy potluck.
Details on potluck contributions will be shared out after you RSVP ON THIS PAGE BY END OF DAY MAY 16.
On 3 Friday nights this year, our congregation will gather in each other's homes to share a Shabbat dinner, some conversation and camaraderie while welcoming in Shabbat together. Each host family is provided with a Challah, the Shabbat blessings and a short drash on the week's Torah portion.
Our goal is to have everyone in the congregation host and/or attend a dinner at least once this year, so please sign up today!
If you have special requests for dinner assignments, please let us know, but we hope you will take this as an opportunity to get to know new people in our community.
Remaining dates for 2017: May 19
NOTE: On evenings when there is Sharing Shabbat, there will be NO formal service held at the synagogue. RESOURCE FOR HOST FAMILIES: Click here for a copy of Shabbat table blessings.
Here's what fellow members are saying about Sharing Shabbat!
- A Guest "I'll be honest. I was hesitant to go to a stranger's home for dinner. But, a friend convinced me to sign up. I am so grateful that I did! We all had a wonderful time. Please sign me up for the next one!"
- A Guest "We very much enjoyed the experience of Sharing Shabbat and particularly the opportunity to meet some congregation members we did not know. We encourage you to continue this format for years to come."
- A Host "Sharing Shabbat was such a pleasure, as we got the unusual chance to share Shabbat with some guests in our home that we don't often get to see. It was a five star evening."
- A Host "My wife and I had a great time hosting Sharing Shabbat dinner. And it would seem our sharing congregants had a good time as well! While we knew almost all of th efolks at our table, we didn't really know most of them very well. What a nice opportunity to get more of their story and to share experiences as well as dinner."
