Sunday Feb 8th, 11:15 AM, In person only
Internationally acclaimed bestselling author and public Jewish intellectual Dara Horn will be with us on March 6-7 as Scholar in Residence. In advance of her visit, join Rabbi Brown for a book discussion of Horn's 2006 novel The World to Come. The novel touches on many of the core themes explored in Horn's work: the history of antisemitism; the obligation and power of Jewish memory; philosophical questions like 'What is Art, and Who Does It Belong To?'; and reflections on Jewish life in America.
Amazon.com book description: A million-dollar Chagall is stolen from a museum during a singles' cocktail hour. The unlikely thief, former child prodigy Benjamin Ziskind, is convinced that the painting once hung in his parents' living room. This work of art opens a door through which we discover his family's startling history—from an orphanage in Soviet Russia where Chagall taught to suburban New Jersey and the jungles of Vietnam.
