Rabbi Ilyse Glickman
Rabbi Ilyse Glickman is our Director of Congregational Learning. Rabbi Glickman grew up in Toronto, Canada where she spent her formative years developing her leadership skills at Temple Har Zion, summer camps, and NFTY. When she was 15 years old, Rabbi Glickman realized that her passion toward bringing individuals and families closer to Judaism as well as her pursuit of equality and justice for all could be realized as a rabbi.
Rabbi Glickman earned a B.A. in Psychology from York University followed by a Master’s Degree in Jewish Literature (MAHL) from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR). Her Master’s thesis explored the intersection of gender, gender roles, and prayer in contemporary Israeli society through the lens of poet Chava Pinchas-Cohen. In 2004 she was ordained from HUC-JIR’s New York campus. In 2016, Rabbi Glickman earned a Master’s Degree in Religious Education (MARE) from HUC-JIR. Her area of educational research explored Individualism and Communitarianism and their enduring tensions that exist in liberal Jewish communities. Rabbi Glickman is also a graduate of Qushiyot: The Israel Education Fellowship, a partnership between The Jewish Education Project and Makom.
Prior to arriving at Scarsdale Synagogue Temples Tremont & Emanu-El in 2015, Rabbi Glickman served as the spiritual leader and Director of Education at Am Shalom Congregation in Barrie, Ontario. She has also served as Interim Director of Education for Temple Shaaray Tefila in Manhattan, Program Director for Hillel at York University, and National Social Action Coordinator at the Canadian Council for Reform Judaism.
Rabbi Glickman is an active member of the Westchester Association of Temple Educators and continues to grow and learn through the many professional development opportunities offered through The Jewish Education Project. She is married to Cantor David Rosen of Congregation Kol Ami and together they are having a fantastic time raising their son Joel.
